The Kimberley | Superyacht Charters for Explorers by YOTSPACE

Explore the Kimberley with YOTSPACE superyacht charters and discover the rugged wilderness and spectacular landscape of Western Australia.

The Kimberley is Western Australia’s sparsely settled northern region. A destination that is a hot bucket list item for both Australians and international travellers. It’s known for large swaths of wilderness defined by rugged ranges, dramatic gorges, semi-arid savanna and a largely isolated coastline that is alive with exotic marine life. Visitors arrive on cruise ships, superyachts, private air tours and on four wheel drive safaris to spend some time exploring the canyons, fjords, limestone cliffs, and learning all about the rich heritage of this mysterious and spectacular landscape.

YOTSPACE superyacht voyages - Kimberley voyages - Buccaneer Archipelago

The Buccaneer Archipelago is a jaw dropping picturesque area consisting of 800 to 1,000 rocky islands that are home to small embayments and secluded white sandy beaches. Located North West of the Kimberley town of Derby, it is home to Pre-Cambrian age (2,500 – 1,800 million years ago) sandstones. These islands are rugged and sparsely vegetated with small patches of rain forest in wet areas and a border of mangroves where silt has accumulated over time all set in a bright turquoise tropical sea. From watching the sea turn the colour of pistachios as mud streams off the Tarraji River into the glistening ocean, the cobalt waters and the deep red of the ore-rich “iron islands”, and the emerald rainforest trees, Buccaneer Archipelago is a one voyage you simply cannot miss.

The area has huge tidal ranges of up to 12 meters, this creates a phenomena as horizontal reversible waterfalls are created in Talbot Bay. These are created when the tide flows between narrow island gaps. Sea snakes, sharks, swordfish and a great variety of tropical fish are found in the pristine waters and coral lagoons.

Catch a glimpse of history and visit the rock art created by the Aboriginals who have lived in the Archipelago for thousands of years. They used rafts of mangrove logs and canoes to travel between the islands, Aboriginal people today still visit their traditional sites and communities that are established in the area.

Montgomery Reef spectacular scenery on YOTSPACE Kimberley voyages

Wake up aboard your YOTSPACE superyacht voyage to see pristine waters and iconic plunging rock faces. A popular spot for the Kimberley superyacht voyages is Crocodile Creek, which is found on an isolated stretch of Cockatoo Island and only accessible by boat. Despite the name, it is a popular swimming spot for Kimberley visitors.

During spring high tides the sea flows right into the pool, cascading over the falls. Climb the sandstone walls to reach a lovely billabong at the top of the falls, safe from salties, the spring-fed pool provides an unforgettable view over the waterfall.

As each enormous Kimberley tide retreats, Montgomery Reef appears, rising out of the sea, shedding water in spectacular cascades and numerous waterfalls. Watch the sea life race over the edge of the drying reef to the safety of the sea creating scenes not seen by many. Montgomery Reef is Australia’s largest inshore reef, it is located 20km off the central Kimberley Coast in Camden Sound Marine Park.

The Worrora people are the traditional custodians of this Humpback whale nursery, known as Yowjab in the Dambinmangari language. The reef is home to dolphins, dugongs, marine turtles and sometimes even crocodiles that have been spotted sun baking on the reef.
