Wine & Dine
Our on-board chef will be creating culinary delights matched with high quality Australian wines, sparkling wine, basic spirits, beer and cocktails to tantalise even the most well-developed palate for the entire cruise. The crew of Phoenix One love setting up surprise events on remote islands and coral cays out in the middle of the reef where you can enjoy gourmet lunches on the beach, sunset drinks and canapes on remote sand cays.
Snorkelers we will be visiting sections of the outer Great Barrier Reef where you will see both spectacular marine life and amazing corals. Phoenix One will take you to places that not many other yachts have yet discovered. Expect to meet friendly turtles, Giant Potato Cod and Maori Wrasse on this YOTSPACE Great Barrier Reef superyacht voyage.
Mackay & Undine Sand Cay
Mid morning on your first day we will arrive for you to see Mackay Cay and Mackay Reef where you can jump in the water and begin your swimming and snorkelling adventure as the crew prepare an al fresco lunch.
This is a protected reef that is shallow and allows you to see beautiful corals, giant clams, turtles and colourful fish life up close.
Beautiful Lizard Island was discovered by Captain Cook in 1770, and is now home to the world famous hide out for celebrities the Lizard Island Resort.
Guests may partake in a guided hike to the highest point of the island, known as Cook’s Look, where the mariner attempted to find a path through the maze of beautiful, but deadly coral reefs in 1770.
The well reported Blue Lagoon is where we will have a snorkel adventure among the legions of colorful tropical fish and view the giant clam gardens near the beach.
Keep your eyes open for the manta rays that visit Anchor Bay as they are simply spectacular to watch as they perform underwater ballet.
Other activities include walking along the island’s powdery white-sand beaches, or hiking up to Chinaman’s Ridge, searching for goannas (Australian monitor lizards) and a multitude of birds, such as sunbirds, honeyeaters, pheasant coucals, and a variety of terns along the way.
Possibly the most well-known dive and snorkel site in the world can be found roughly 96 kilometres north of Cairns, at Cod Hole. Part of the string of long narrow Ribbon Reefs, the Cod Hole is home to a group of very friendly potato cod, reaching up to 100 kilograms, that have become accustomed to snorkellers over the past 30 years. The giant fish approach quite closely, and can be hand fed at the site. Many other large and small reef fish populate this site, and during the winter months you may even be photobombed by a dwarf minke whale – they have been known to linger around for encounters with snorkelers for many hours.
Dwarf Minke Whales
Each year these graceful creatures migrate to the stretch of reefs south of Lizard Island, known as the Ribbon Reefs. The inquisitive nature of the Dwarf Minke Whale brings them close to boats in the region to linger with snorkelers, at times as close to only a metre away. The whales are mostly encountered alone or in family groups of two or three, but can be in groups of up to eight during the months of June to July .
On all our YOTSPACE superyacht voyages our Captain and crew source as much fresh produce locally to support the people and places we are fortunate enough to visit. This ensures our food is less travelled and we have less wastage on our superyacht voyages. We are environmentally conscious of our yachting impacts and maintain structured policies to ensure we leave our destinations with what we came with.
