1. What is the best time of year to charter a superyacht in the Whitsundays?
The optimal time to charter a superyacht in the Whitsundays is during the winter months (June to August) when the weather is mostly dry and sunny with an average temperature of around 24°C and the southern states of Australia are in the depths of winter. These are the months you may also encounter Humpback whales on their annual migration. However for most, the Whitsundays is a year-round destination, and the summer months (December to February) can also offer excellent conditions for cruising with more consistent winds and warmer temperatures for those that don’t mind a bit of humidity and balmy evenings. The shoulder seasons (April to May and September to November) are also a good time to visit, with fewer crowds and pleasant weather conditions in this sub-tropical climate.
Our personal favourite superyacht charter months are November to March which are known as the cyclone season, yet the oceans are calmer, and the marine life are in abundance as it is also coral spawning season.
2. What is the duration of a typical superyacht charter in the Whitsundays?
Superyacht charters in the Whitsundays can vary in duration depending on the guest’s preferences, with most charters ranging from three to ten days. Some guests may opt for a shorter three to five-day charter, while others may prefer a longer seven to ten-day charter to explore more of the region’s stunning islands and beaches.
If guests wish they may also charter a superyacht for just a day to explore the Great Barrier Reef or even for a sunset charter from Hamilton Island or from Airlie Beach.
3. What is the maximum number of guests that a superyacht can accommodate?
The maximum number of guests that a superyacht can accommodate in the Whitsundays depends on the size and layout of the yacht, and if the yacht has been chartered for just a sunset cruise, day charter or an overnight extended charter.
Yachts can accommodate a larger number of guests for day charters and sunset charters.
For overnight and extended charters, most superyachts in the Whitsundays can comfortably accommodate between six to twelve guests, while larger international vessels can accommodate up to twenty guests. However, it’s essential to discuss your specific requirements with the YOTSPACE crew to ensure that they select the most suitable yacht for your needs.
4. Can I bring my own food and drinks on board the superyacht?
No, guests are unable to bring their food and drinks on board the superyacht, however you can request their favourite food, beverages and snacks whilst enjoying the cruise. Some guests may have specific dietary requirements that will be discussed when the provisioning is being confirmed for the superyacht charter. There is an onboard chef that will be producing some of the most amazing food items you have ever tasted, and the meals will be served by the five-star super yachting crew. All food and beverages form part of the APA.
5. What water sports and activities are available during the charter?
A superyacht charter in the Whitsundays offers a range of water sports and activities to enjoy dependant if a day charter, or an overnight extended charter. If it’s a day charter with a high number of guests, in-water activities will not be included due to maritime safety. For overnight and extended charters, a lot of the in-water toys will be included in the charter cost. For superyachts with the super motorized toys, there may be extra charges for their use. Most superyachts include snorkel gear, scuba diving (may be at extra cost), kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and jet skiing. Guests can also explore the region’s stunning beaches, enjoy a beach picnic or barbecue. In the Whitsundays your superyacht captain can arrange an optional extra experience such as a scenic helicopter or seaplane flight over the Great Barrier Reef.
6. Can I customize the itinerary and route of the charter?
Yes, guests can customize the itinerary and route of the charter to suit their preferences in consultation firstly with the YOTSPACE crew and then whilst onboard with the superyacht captain. Whilst onboard the itinerary may need to change due to weather conditions and marine safety.
Charter companies do their best to work with guests to create a personalized itinerary that includes their preferred destinations, activities, and experiences. Guests can also request a tailored menu, wine list, and other services to ensure that their charter meets their exact requirements, and this is part of the APA provisioning agreement.
7. What is included in the charter fee?
The charter fee for a superyacht in the Whitsundays typically includes the yacht’s, crew, GST (local taxes) and some water sports equipment. However, most charter yachts may have additional fees which are called APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) for specific services or equipment, fuel, onboard meals and drinks, water sports equipment, National Park fees and harbour fees so it’s essential to review the charter contract carefully before signing.
