5 Day Whitsunday Islands Escape

The Whitsundays offer one of Queensland’s most accessible and rewarding yacht-charter regions, with dozens of islands scattered throughout the Great Barrier Reef. From Airlie Beach, guests can move easily between protected anchorages, coral-fringed shores, walking trails and celebrated beaches while enjoying short passages that leave plenty of time for swimming, snorkelling and relaxation.

This five-day itinerary focuses entirely on the island group, moving from Airlie Beach through Hook Island and Whitsunday Island before reaching Hamilton Island and returning to the mainland. It is the most relaxed of the three Queensland routes, balancing iconic locations with slower days aboard and plenty of flexibility for water-based activities.

  • When | December–March
  • Duration | 5 Days - 4 Nights

  • Concludes | Airlie Beach

Day 1: Airlie Beach & Hook Island

ISLAND DEPARTURE | SHELTERED COVES | WELCOME ABOARD

Board the yacht at Airlie Beach and cruise east into the Whitsunday Islands, leaving the mainland behind as forested islands begin to surround the yacht. Airlie Beach is one of the region’s established gateways for yacht and charter-boat access into the national-park islands.

Continue toward Hook Island and settle into a suitable sheltered location for the afternoon. Spend the first day swimming, paddleboarding, snorkelling or exploring nearby coves by tender before enjoying dinner onboard.

Day 2: Hook Island

CORAL REEFS | SNORKELLING | ISLAND WILDERNESS

Dedicate a full day to Hook Island, allowing guests to experience the quieter side of the Whitsundays without rushing onward. The island’s coastline includes beaches and locations specifically recognised for snorkelling, diving and boating.

Explore by tender, kayak along the shoreline or snorkel where conditions and reef-management rules permit. The captain can select the best bay or mooring according to weather, visibility and guest interests.

Day 3: Whitehaven Beach

WHITEHAVEN BEACH | HILL INLET | BEACH EXPLORATION

Cruise south toward Whitsunday Island and Whitehaven Beach, a seven-kilometre sweep of exceptionally fine white sand and one of Queensland’s signature coastal landscapes.

Go ashore for time on the beach and, where arrangements permit, explore the Hill Inlet area before returning to the yacht for swimming, lunch and an afternoon cruise. Spend the evening in an appropriate nearby anchorage selected by the captain.

ISLAND LUXURY | WATERFRONT DINING | MARINA LIFE

Cruise toward Hamilton Island for a change of pace from the quieter national-park islands. Hamilton is the largest resort island in the Whitsundays and offers restaurants, walking trails, activities and established marina facilities.

Guests can spend time ashore, enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the island’s restaurants, visit the marina or remain aboard for a leisurely afternoon before the final evening of the charter.
