HONG KONG & MACAU: 7 Day Coastal Adventure
Asia & Indian Ocean
Hong Kong & Macau
7 Day Coastal Adventure
Beyond Hong Kong’s dense city centre lies an unexpectedly varied cruising ground of volcanic coastlines, uninhabited islands, fishing communities and sandy beaches. Sai Kung forms the gateway to the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, while Sharp Island and High Island reveal the region’s distinctive geological landscapes before the route turns south toward Hong Kong’s outer islands.
This seven-day itinerary is deliberately more adventurous than the five-day route. Po Toi, Cheung Chau and Tai O introduce remote coastal scenery and village life before the yacht crosses toward Macau for a final day in Coloane, where a quieter fishing-village atmosphere offers a relaxed ending far removed from Macau’s busiest urban districts.
- Where | Hong Kong
- When | October–November
- Duration | 7 Days - 6 Nights
- Departs | Sai Kung
- Concludes | Coloane Village
Day 1: Sai Kung
GEOPARK GATEWAY | WATERFRONT LIFE | EXPEDITION START
Board around Sai Kung and begin with an introduction to Hong Kong’s northeastern cruising grounds. Sai Kung is closely associated with the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, whose surrounding landscapes include volcanic formations, sea stacks, caves and other remarkable coastal features.
Cruise from the lively waterfront into quieter island-dotted waters, with time for a tender excursion and relaxed dinner aboard before beginning the more nature-focused stages of the journey.
Day 2: Sharp Island
GEOLOGY | CORAL REEF | BEACH EXPLORATION
Continue to Sharp Island, an uninhabited island within the UNESCO Global Geopark. It stretches roughly 2.5 kilometres and combines beaches, distinctive geological formations, panoramic island views and coral habitat.
Go ashore for walking and beach time, or spend the afternoon swimming, kayaking and snorkelling where conditions permit. At appropriate tides, guests can also observe the island’s distinctive tombolo landscape
Day 3: High Island
VOLCANIC LANDSCAPES | SEA CLIFFS | GEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY
Cruise deeper into the Sai Kung region toward High Island. The area is noted for internationally significant hexagonal volcanic rock columns, with dramatic formations visible around the High Island Reservoir and nearby coastline.
Spend the day cruising beneath the geological landscape before arranging a guided shore excursion where practical. Boat-based Geopark tours already operate through the Sai Kung volcanic-rock region, underscoring how rewarding this coastline is from the water.
Day 4: Po Toi Island
SOUTHERNMOST ISLAND | ROCK FORMATIONS | OPEN-SEA VIEWS
Turn south toward Po Toi, Hong Kong’s southernmost island. Its rugged shoreline, unusual granite formations and remote position provide a dramatically different atmosphere from the sheltered northeastern cruising grounds.
Go ashore for a coastal walk toward the island’s lighthouse and rock formations before returning aboard. The day involves a more open-water passage, so timing should remain dependent on sea state and weather.
Day 5: Cheung Chau
FISHING VILLAGE | BEACHES | LOCAL FOOD
Cruise west to Cheung Chau, an outlying island with a strong maritime identity and a lively village centre. Its combination of beaches, hiking routes, cafés, small shops and local food provides an ideal social stop after several nature-focused days.
Explore the lanes by foot or bicycle, sample local specialties and spend time along the shore before returning aboard for the evening.
Day 6: Tai O
STILT HOUSES | FISHING HERITAGE | LANTAU COAST
Continue west toward Lantau Island and Tai O, one of Hong Kong’s oldest fishing villages. The settlement is particularly known for its traditional fishing culture, waterways, seafood products and historic stilt-house environment.
Explore the village by foot and small local boat before enjoying a final Hong Kong lunch. The yacht can then prepare for its cross-boundary movement toward Macau, subject to clearance and operating arrangements.
Day 7: Coloane Village
FISHING VILLAGE | COASTAL CHARM | MACAU FINALE
Complete the journey in Coloane, Macau’s quieter southern district. Official Macau tourism itineraries emphasise its village lanes, seashore, traditional food and old fishing-village atmosphere, creating a gentle contrast with Hong Kong’s dramatic geological coastline.
Go ashore for a leisurely final exploration, with time for local food and heritage sites before disembarkation. Macau also currently operates a coastal cruise connection involving Coloane Pier, reflecting the district’s continuing relationship with the waterfront.

Hong Kong & Macau: 7 Day Coastal Adventure Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to charter here?
+October and November provide an attractive window for outdoor exploration, with Macau generally experiencing mild and dry weather during these months. Hong Kong is also moving toward its cooler season, although tropical cyclones remain possible through November.
Where do charters depart from?
+This itinerary begins around Sai Kung, the principal gateway to Hong Kong’s northeastern Geopark and island cruising grounds.
What can be experienced in this region?
+Guests can experience volcanic landscapes, coral-fringed islands, beaches, fishing villages, hiking, island food culture, Tai O’s historic waterfront and the quieter streets of Coloane.
Who is this destination suited for?
+This itinerary works best for active couples, families, photographers and adventurous luxury travellers who want nature and cultural discovery rather than a city-focused charter.
What is a typical itinerary like?
+Each day introduces a new island or coastal region, moving progressively from Hong Kong’s northeast to its southern and western islands before finishing in Macau. Walking and tender exploration are more prominent than on the five-day itinerary.
What should be considered before booking?
+The route includes exposed coastal passages as well as an international-style administrative crossing between Hong Kong and Macau. Weather, sea state, marine traffic, protected-area rules and port-clearance requirements can therefore affect the programme, and the captain and local operator should retain full discretion over routing and timing. Hong Kong requires port clearance before a visiting yacht or pleasure vessel departs its waters.
