What is the APA on Luxury Yacht Charters | Advance Provisioning Allowance?

Considering a luxury yacht charter – We can help explain everything about APA.

Firstly, what is the meaning of an APA on luxury yacht charters? Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) has been a common practice around the globe for the provisioning of the yachts in charter. In recent years this practice has been embraced by some in the superyacht world in Australia as an industry standard.

On a YOTSPACE charter you may find that we offer special all-inclusive charter rates at various times of the year to simplify the chartering of a yacht.

What is APA on Yacht Charters?

It is a payment made in advance to the charter yacht to cover the anticipated expenses of the charter.
The expenses normally include forecasted fuel consumption, food, and other supplies such as alcohol, dive masters, special equipment and any mooring fees, permits or extras.

The APA is a separate cost to the actual luxury yacht charter fee.

How is APA Calculated on Yacht Charters?

The APA is normally calculated as a percentage of the total charter fee and varies between 15% and 30% dependant on the yacht size and number of guests on board. The APA is paid to YOTSPACE who then pass it onto the yachts captain just before the charter so they may provision the yacht in readiness for your charter.

Why is APA additional?

The reason for the APA is to ensure that the luxury charter yacht is properly provisioned and equipped for the charter, and that the charter guests will have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

The APA is an amount that can be adjusted based on the needs, desires and preferences of the charter guests. For example, if the charter guests have specific extravagant dietary requirements or want to stock a particular brand of rare or unique liquor on board, the APA can be adjusted to cover the specific requests and additional costs.

What if APA is left over?

It is important to note that any unused portion of the APA will be refunded at the end of the charter.

The Captain of the yacht is responsible for ensuring that the APA is used for the intended purposes and provides detailed receipts for all expenses incurred. The Captain will review the receipts and expenses with the charter guest at the end of the charter and any refund will be agreed directly with the prime charter guest.
