Day 1: Broome to Cape Leveque
EXPEDITION EMBARKATION | SUNSET CRUISING | ONBOARD DINNER
Board your vessel in Broome and settle into your cabin before departure. Spend the evening getting acquainted with the crew and watching the coastline recede over dinner. Cruise north along the Dampier Peninsula overnight towards Cape Leveque, positioning the vessel for the island passages ahead. Cape Leveque serves as a coastal passage reference; a shore landing is not assumed.
Day 2: Buccaneer Archipelago
ISLAND PASSAGES | TENDER EXPLORATION | WILDLIFE WATCHING
Wake to a changing panorama of rocky islands and channels as the voyage enters the Buccaneer Archipelago. Join a guided tender excursion where conditions permit, observing the shoreline from water level and looking for seabirds along the headlands. Between excursions, relax onboard as the vessel navigates passages selected around the tides. Finish with dinner overlooking the islands.
Day 3: Dugong Bay & Horizontal Falls
TIDAL FALLS VIEWING | TENDER EXPLORING | GEOLOGY DISCOVERY
Explore Dugong Bay by tender, taking time to observe the sheltered waterways and sandstone formations. Continue towards the Horizontal Falls area, where tidal water moving through narrow gaps creates the region’s distinctive spectacle. The captain will time the visit around local conditions and the permitted viewing arrangements.
Return onboard to relax after the excursions. Passage through the falls is not a guaranteed activity; the experience depends on the operator’s permissions and conditions on the day.
Day 4: Montgomery Reef & Red Cone Creek
EEF CASCADES | CREEK EXPLORATION | NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
Visit Montgomery Reef during a suitable tidal window, watching water drain from the exposed reef and cascade into surrounding channels. Explore by tender with the crew, looking for marine life while keeping clear of sensitive reef surfaces.
Continue towards Red Cone Creek for a closer view of the Kimberley’s inland waterways. Depending on tides and access, follow the creek by tender and take a guided shore excursion towards its rocky upper reaches. Waterfall flow varies seasonally, and any freshwater swimming must be specifically assessed and approved by the crew.
Day 5: Camden Harbour
COASTAL CRUISING | SETTLEMENT HISTORY | TENDER EXPLORING
Cruise past Augustus Island and Kuri Bay before exploring Camden Harbour. Go ashore with the guides to learn about the nineteenth-century settlement and visit the settlers’ graves on Sheep Island. Later, join another tender excursion or enjoy a quiet afternoon onboard overlooking the remote coastline.
Day 6: Prince Regent River & King Cascade
RIVER CRUISING | WATERFALL VIEWING | WILDERNESS PHOTOGRAPHY
Travel into the Prince Regent River system, where broad coastal waters give way to a more enclosed river landscape. Explore the navigable reaches using the vessel or tender as appropriate, continuing towards King Cascade to view water flowing over its stepped rock formations.
Take time to photograph the falls and surrounding vegetation before returning onboard. This is a waterfall-viewing excursion; swimming at the base of King Cascade should not be included. Prince Regent River and King Cascade feature in established Kimberley expedition programmes.
Day 7: Careening Bay & Roe River
MARITIME HISTORY | RIVER EXPLORING | CULTURAL DISCOVERY
Visit Careening Bay’s historic Mermaid Boab, whose inscription records repairs to Phillip Parker King’s vessel in 1820. Continue towards the Roe River for tender exploration and wildlife watching, with access shaped by the tides. Where approved, visit a Wandjina art site before continuing towards the Hunter River for your final night onboard.
Day 8: Hunter River to Broome
RIVER SCENERY | SCENIC HELICOPTER FLIGHT | RETURN TO BROOME
Enjoy breakfast surrounded by the Hunter River region’s mangroves and sandstone cliffs before saying farewell to the crew. Depart by helicopter for a scenic flight over Mitchell Falls, continuing to Mitchell Plateau for your connecting aircraft to Broome. The aerial transfer completes the journey without a long return sea passage; flight routing remains subject to weather and operating conditions.
