MYANMAR: 6 Day Wildlife & Island Discovery

Myanmar
6 Day Wildlife & Island Discovery
The central Mergui Archipelago offers a different charter experience, shifting the emphasis toward mangrove forests, birdlife, jungle-backed anchorages and culturally significant island landscapes. Historical six-day sailing routes from Kawthaung have linked Barwell Island, Tang La Bo, Pony, Nyaung Wee and Lampi National Park in a journey built around nature and slow exploration.
This six-day itinerary therefore focuses more heavily on forest, wildlife and kayaking than the five-day southern route. It progresses through a completely different set of destinations, culminating around Hastings Bay before returning toward Kawthaung.
- Where | Mergui Archipelago, Myanmar
- When | November–April
- Duration | 6 Days - 5 Nights

Day 1: Kawthaung to Barwell Island
FIRST ANCHORAGE | SWIMMING | SUNSET ABOARD
Depart Kawthaung and cruise toward Barwell Island for a gentle opening afternoon. Existing six-day Mergui sailing programmes have traditionally used Barwell as the first overnight stop, allowing guests to settle aboard before progressing farther north.
Day 2: Tang La Bo Island
REEF SNORKELLING | BEACH WALK | QUIET CRUISING
Continue toward Tang La Bo, historically included on six-day sailing routes for its snorkelling and beach scenery.
Explore the reef before going ashore for an easy beach walk, then spend the afternoon kayaking or relaxing aboard while the yacht continues deeper into the island chain.
Day 3: Pony Island
BIRDLIFE | FORESTED SHORES | WILDLIFE WATCHING
Cruise toward Pony Island for a nature-focused day. Historical Mergui itineraries specifically highlight this area for birdwatching, including hornbills and sea eagles, alongside swimming and quiet anchorages.
Guests can explore the coastline by tender, spend time watching birds from deck or simply enjoy a slower afternoon surrounded by jungle-covered islands.
Day 4: Nyaung Wee Island
ISLAND COMMUNITY | PROTECTED BAYS | COASTAL CULTURE
Continue toward Nyaung Wee, a regular stop on Mergui sailing programmes and an island associated with Moken communities and sheltered bays.
Any cultural visit should be locally guided and approached respectfully rather than treated as a staged attraction. The remainder of the afternoon can be spent swimming or kayaking before dinner aboard.
Day 5: Lampi Marine National Park
MANGROVES | RAINFOREST | KAYAK EXPLORATION
Enter the Lampi area for one of the itinerary’s strongest wilderness days. Historical yacht programmes incorporate mangrove exploration, birdwatching, kayaking and jungle environments within the protected park landscape.
Explore a permitted mangrove channel by kayak or tender and spend time observing the forested coastline before a quiet night aboard.
Day 6: Hastings Bay to Kawthaung
FINAL ISLAND MORNING | REMOTE BAY | RETURN TO PORT
Finish around Hastings Bay, a location incorporated into six-day Mergui sailing programmes as a final-night or farewell area before returning to Kawthaung.
Enjoy a last swim and brunch onboard before beginning the return passage for immigration formalities and disembarkation in Kawthaung.
