5 Day Remote Reef Odyssey
Pemba offers a quieter and more remote alternative to Zanzibar, with deep channels, forested coastline, coral reefs and isolated beaches shaping the experience. This five-day itinerary explores the waters surrounding the island at a deliberately slower pace, combining diving and snorkelling with secluded anchorages and visits to less-developed coastal communities. It is a destination suited to guests who value marine exploration and privacy over busy resort areas. Tanzania Tourism includes Pemba among the country’s principal beach and island escapes.

Day 1: Pemba
ISLAND ARRIVAL | COASTAL CRUISING | RELAXATION
Join the yacht around Chake Chake before beginning the journey along Pemba’s western coast. Spend the first afternoon settling onboard and exploring a sheltered anchorage, with swimming and paddleboarding available according to conditions. The slower pace provides an introduction to an island that remains noticeably quieter than neighbouring Zanzibar.
Day 2: Misali Island
DIVING | SNORKELLING | CORAL REEFS
Cruise towards the waters surrounding Misali Island for a day focused on the marine environment. Explore coral reefs through snorkelling or diving with appropriately qualified local operators where required, then return to the yacht for lunch at anchor. Spend the afternoon swimming or moving between sheltered areas as conditions dictate.
Day 3: Wambaa
REMOTE CRUISING | MARINE LIFE | KAYAKING
Continue through Pemba’s western channels, where mangroves, reefs and a deeply indented coastline create opportunities for quieter exploration. Take the tender or kayaks into suitable inshore areas, swim from the yacht or simply spend the afternoon at anchor away from the island’s larger settlements.
Day 4: Vumawimbi & Northern Pemba
WHITE-SAND BEACHES | SWIMMING | EXPLORING
Cruise north towards the coastline around Vumawimbi, where a long stretch of pale sand provides a scenic setting for a relaxed day. Swim in clear water, explore the shoreline by tender or enjoy a beach visit where access and tides allow. Return onboard for dinner in a quiet anchorage beneath Pemba’s forested northern coastline.
Day 5: Pemba
MORNING SNORKEL | COASTAL CRUISING | RELAXATION
Begin the return journey south with time for one final snorkel or swim. Cruise along Pemba’s western coastline before arriving back near Chake Chake for disembarkation. The final day remains intentionally flexible, allowing the captain to choose the best anchorage according to visibility, wind and tide.
