Day 1: Hobart to Port Arthur
COASTAL PASSAGE | PORT ARTHUR | HISTORIC WATERFRONT
Board your yacht in Hobart and depart through the River Derwent towards the Tasman Peninsula. Enjoy lunch onboard as the city waterfront gives way to open coastal scenery. Arrive in the Port Arthur area and, if passage time allows, go ashore for a prearranged visit to the historic site. Otherwise, enjoy the harbour from the yacht before dinner. Overnight locally or begin the northbound passage if required by the cruising plan.
Day 2: Coles Bay
GREAT OYSTER BAY | FINAL MORNING | DISEMBARKATION
Continue north towards Coles Bay, allowing a substantial part of the day for the passage. On arrival, take in views of the Hazards and the sheltered waters on Freycinet Peninsula’s western side. Depending on arrival time and landing arrangements, enjoy a short walk ashore or relax onboard with the granite peaks in view. Finish with dinner and overnight at a suitable anchorage selected for the forecast.
Day 3: Wineglass Bay
WINEGLASS BAY | THE HAZARDS | FREYCINET
Depart early and cruise south around Freycinet Peninsula before turning north towards Wineglass Bay on its eastern side. This is a coastal passage rather than a short crossing between neighbouring bays. If swell and landing conditions permit, go ashore to walk along the beach and photograph its sweeping curve. Return onboard for dinner, with overnight shelter chosen according to conditions rather than assuming a stay inside the bay.
Day 4: Schouten Island
REMOTE ISLAND | GRANITE COAST | WATERSPORTS
Cruise south towards Schouten Island and explore its coastline from the water. Where conditions allow, land near Crocketts Beach for a guided walk, beachcombing or quiet time ashore. This northern part of the island is an established boat excursion destination.
Return to the yacht for lunch and spend the afternoon enjoying the island scenery. Optional kayaking may be available where equipment and conditions permit, followed by dinner at a suitable overnight anchorage.
Day 5: Maria Island
WILDLIFE | HISTORIC RUINS | ISLAND EXPLORATION
Continue south to Maria Island and go ashore near Darlington through an appropriate landing arrangement. Explore the historic settlement and its convict-era buildings, then follow a walking route suited to the time available. Watch for wombats and other wildlife without approaching or feeding them. Maria Island combines protected natural landscapes with the World Heritage-listed Darlington Probation Station.
Day 6: Fortescue Bay & Tasman Peninsula
SEA CLIFFS | FORTESCUE BAY | COASTAL WALKING
Depart Maria Island early and cruise south towards Fortescue Bay. Enjoy the changing coastal views during the passage before entering the bay, where forested slopes meet the shoreline. If timing and conditions allow, take a final tender trip ashore for a beach walk or enjoy lunch onboard overlooking the bay.
