6 Day Yasawa Islands Adventure
North of the Mamanucas, the Yasawa Islands offer a more remote and adventurous side of Fiji. The chain contains around 20 predominantly volcanic islands characterised by high grassy peaks, beaches, traditional villages and isolated lagoons, while Sawa-i-Lau stands apart as a distinctive limestone island.
This six-day itinerary moves steadily north through the archipelago, beginning around Waya and continuing through Drawaqa, Sawa-i-Lau, Nacula and Yasawa Island before concluding at Nanuya Lailai. The emphasis shifts toward hiking, marine wildlife, caves and local cultural experiences, giving it a distinctly more expedition-oriented character than the five-day Mamanuca route.
- Where | Yasawa Islands, Fiji
- When | May–October
- Duration | 6 Days - 5 Nights
- Departs | Waya Island
- Concludes | Nanuya Lailai
Day 1: Waya Island
VOLCANIC PEAKS | ISLAND HIKING | YASAWA ARRIVAL
Depart Lautoka and cruise northwest toward Waya Island, entering the southern Yasawas. Waya is known for its striking mountainous terrain and is highlighted by Tourism Fiji as one of the island chain’s strongest hiking destinations.
Spend the afternoon swimming or exploring ashore before joining a locally guided walk for elevated views over neighbouring islands. Return aboard for the first dinner surrounded by the distinctive volcanic peaks of the Yasawas.
Day 2: Drawaqa Island
MANTA RAYS | REEF SNORKELLING | MARINE CONSERVATION
Continue north to Drawaqa Island, where the narrow passage between Drawaqa and Naviti becomes one of Fiji’s signature marine experiences during manta season. From May through October, mantas gather in the channel to feed as tidal currents carry plankton through the passage.
When conditions and wildlife activity allow, join an experienced local guide for a responsible manta snorkelling experience. The rest of the day can include reef exploration, diving or relaxed beach time before dinner aboard.
Day 3: Yasawa Island
REMOTE NORTH | SUNRISE RIDGES | SECLUDED SHORES
Cruise to Yasawa Island near the northern end of the chain for the itinerary’s most remote full day. Tourism Fiji identifies Mount Tamasua on Yasawa Island as one of Fiji’s standout sunrise hiking locations.
Guests seeking an active experience can join a guided walk, while others can enjoy secluded beaches, kayaking and tender exploration. The evening is deliberately quiet, with dinner onboard beneath a largely undeveloped island skyline.
Day 4: Sawa-i-Lau
LIMESTONE CAVES | SALTWATER POOLS | GEOLOGICAL WONDER
Cruise farther north toward Sawa-i-Lau, a striking limestone island unlike the volcanic landscapes that dominate the rest of the Yasawa chain. Its famous saltwater caves are the principal reason visitors travel to this remote corner of the archipelago.
Arrange a locally guided cave visit, entering the limestone chambers and natural pools according to tide and access conditions. Spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding waters before the captain selects a suitable nearby overnight position.
Day 5: Nacula Island
VILLAGE CULTURE | WHITE-SAND BEACHES | ISLAND WALKING
Continue to Nacula Island in the northern Yasawas, where broad beaches and rugged inland scenery create a strong setting for both relaxation and exploration. Tourism Fiji highlights Nacula for its beaches as well as hiking opportunities.
With prior local arrangements, guests can experience a village visit or guided cultural encounter, learning more about daily life and traditions in the Yasawas. Follow with an afternoon swim or walk before returning to the yacht.
Day 6: Nanuya Lailai
NORTHERN LAGOON | FINAL SWIM | ISLAND FAREWELL
Finish the journey around Nanuya Lailai in the northern Yasawas, where sheltered island waters provide a relaxed conclusion after several days of progressive cruising.
Enjoy a final snorkel, swim or beach visit before disembarkation. The northern Yasawas are connected back toward the mainland by boat services, while air transfers are also available within the island group, allowing the yacht itinerary to remain genuinely one-way rather than retracing the entire route south.

MANTA SNORKELLING | ISLAND HIKING | CULTURAL EXPERIENCES
The Yasawas reward a more active style of charter, combining snorkelling and diving with hiking, saltwater-cave exploration and carefully arranged village visits. Seasonal manta encounters around Drawaqa are a particular highlight from May through October. Optional premium additions may include a private naturalist, specialist dive guide, cultural guide, professional photographer, private island picnic, helicopter or seaplane transfer, guided peak hike or marine-conservation experience. Air and helicopter transfers operate throughout Fiji and are commonly used to connect the Yasawas with Nadi.
Fiji: 6 Day Yasawa Islands Adventure Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to charter here?
+This itinerary is designed to begin from Lautoka, one of the western Viti Levu gateways to the Yasawa Islands. Boat services also operate from Port Denarau and Lautoka into the island chain.
Where do charters depart from?
+This itinerary is designed to begin from Lautoka, one of the western Viti Levu gateways to the Yasawa Islands. Boat services also operate from Port Denarau and Lautoka into the island chain.
What can be experienced in this region?
+Guests can experience volcanic mountains, manta rays, Sawa-i-Lau’s limestone caves, remote beaches, island hiking and traditional Fijian communities.
Who is this destination suited for?
+This route is especially strong for adventurous couples, active families, photographers, divers and returning charter guests who want a more remote experience than the resort-oriented Mamanuca Islands.
What is a typical itinerary like?
+Expect longer passages than in the Mamanucas, balanced by full days devoted to snorkelling, hiking, caves and shore exploration. The Yasawa chain extends far northwest from Viti Levu, making a progressive one-way route particularly rewarding.
What should be considered before booking?
+Village visits, cave excursions and certain shore activities should be coordinated locally and approached respectfully. Manta encounters are wildlife-dependent, while reefs, winds and sea conditions can change the preferred route, so the captain retains final discretion over each day’s cruising programme.
The two Fiji products therefore stay clearly separated: 5 Days = easy Mamanuca island-hopping and resort-style cruising; 6 Days = a more remote Yasawa passage built around mountains, culture, caves and marine wildlife.
